No Plumber Here

I like to think of myself as quite an open minded person who is relatively happy to give anything a try. I’ve dabbled in a lot of things that most people would turn their heads at and I am proud of the fact that I’ve (so far) lived a very varied life. Generally, I want to experience everything life has to offer. There is only one thing that I absolutely will not have a bar of… and that’s plumbing or becoming a plumber.

I truly couldn’t think of anything worse than being a plumber. Aside from the fact they deal with literal poo on a daily basis, they also have to provide commercial gutter cleaning services which means getting up on large buildings and clearing out the gutters. They have to deal with drains that are blocked with God knows what and listen to people complaining about the fact that their hot water systems aren’t working properly. I just think it’s such a thankless job that it is absolutely not worth even trying just to say that I’ve done it.

This might seem like such a random blog post for my followers. But it’s my blog and I like to use it to express what I’m thinking. Normally this would be some extremely excited and positive post about how good my latest experience has been (whether that be learning to cut hair, going snorkelling, riding a horse or anything for that matter) but because I’ve been doing some self reflection recently and I just thought I should acknowledge that I would absolutely never be a plumber who performs hot water repairs. Melbourne is littered with plumbing issues because of how old the city is, so anyone working as a plumber would be so overworked it’s ridiculous. If I’m going to be overworked I want to at least be doing something that one, isn’t disgusting and two, is enjoyable.

Inspecting Drains

I think there is something inside the drains at the front of my house. I’m not sure what it is but whatever it is has made my drains become blocked and I think it’s impacting the rest of my sewerage system too. I need to get a drain plumber out here as soon as possible to rectify the issue.

I have contacted the plumber and asked him to complete drain camera inspections. In the Melbourne area, it’s not uncommon for random things to go down the drain and so I’m sure that the plumber will find something during his camera inspection. I just hope that whatever it is can be dislodged quickly and easily, because I don’t want any more sewerage problems going forward.

The drain plumber came this morning to inspect my drains. As I suspected, there was something lodged deep in the drain that was causing drainage problems. It didn’t take a genius to figure it out but I’m glad to have had the drain plumber confirm my suspicions.

Just as I had hoped, he was able to rectify the problem quickly and easily (to his standard, it certainly wouldn’t have been easy for me. In fact, it would have been impossible). I was glad to have avoided a full scale sewer replacement. Melbourne drains are slowly being replaced one by one but I’m hoping mine don’t need to be replaced until after I moved. I hope to move to a suburb that has already had its drains replaced so that I don’t have to deal with all the issues that come with it.

I can rest easy tonight knowing that my drains are unblocked and I don’t need a sewer replacement. As someone who likes to keep things in order, that is very comforting and I am happy about it. I hope to have no more issues with my drains while I live in this property.

Area of Expertise

Hello, it’s me again. The girl who is struggling so much with being an adult that she spends days at a time crying, unable to pick up the phone and call a plumber even when she desperately needs one. It’s unfortunate that this is how I define myself and how people know me. I’m just the girl who can’t handle being anything other than a girl – I don’t want to be an adult. I don’t want to deal with the blocked sewer near my house. Melbourne is such an old city and has such old buildings that pretty much every house in my street is dealing with the same problems. It’s too much for me. I just want to live a stress free and fun life – is that too much to ask?

I wish I could just get my dad to come over and do my drain repairs. In the Brighton area, it’s not hard to come across a variety of qualified plumbers, but I don’t like talking on the phone and so I try to avoid doing that where I can. Unfortunately my dad isn’t a qualified plumber and there’s no way he’d be able to fix my blocked sewer and broken drains. That means I have to suck it up and call a plumber even though I don’t want to. Part of me just wants to live with the drain issues for the rest of my life but that’s not very feasible. So I have to bite the bullet and call. Here it goes.

The conversation went well. He’s going to come in the next couple of days to fix my drains. He said that I don’t need to worry about it and that it’s well within his area of expertise to be able to fix my drains with no issues. I’m just going to put it out of my head now and hope for the best.

Leaving the Sewer

Hours after they’d entered the sewers, they finally came to a set of stairs leading up toward the light of day. Maphira had made an effort to be as annoying as possible and was glad to have heard Vai continually complaining about a migraine.

She’d said just about whatever came to her mind, continually complaining about the state of Melbourne’s sewer system. “I understand your point,” she’d said, “but I don’t see why you wouldn’t just get a professional drain cleaning team from Melbourne to clean this place up. It seems like you want it to be disgusting down here.”

Then she’d gone on a big rant about how the fourth phase of the Marble Cinematic Universe really just wasn’t living up to the standards set by the previous two dozen films. Because if there was one thing she knew Vai hated, it was opinions about superhero movies.

She wasn’t really sure what her goal was, other than to perhaps get them to do something about the state of the sewer system. Seriously, how hard would it be to get drain contractors to take a day off from their regular task of being a normal drain repair around Melbourne and get them into the sewers?

Maphira supposed that Vai having a migraine could help her escape somehow, given she was in charge of this whole operation. Maybe it would give her the perfect chance to escape when she decided to pull the pin. But she had to hold out as long as she could. The chance to get information was too valuable to pass up.

Making sure her radio earpiece was still on her, Maphira headed up the stairs to whatever fate awaited her with this mysterious Project Bender.

They came up into what Maphira immediately recognised as an auto shop. She supposed that shouldn’t have surprised her, given this was the Conclave of Mechanists she was dealing with.

So, this is where it’s all going to go down, huh? Let’s see what you’ve got, Vai.
