Leaving the Sewer

Hours after they’d entered the sewers, they finally came to a set of stairs leading up toward the light of day. Maphira had made an effort to be as annoying as possible and was glad to have heard Vai continually complaining about a migraine.

She’d said just about whatever came to her mind, continually complaining about the state of Melbourne’s sewer system. “I understand your point,” she’d said, “but I don’t see why you wouldn’t just get a professional drain cleaning team from Melbourne to clean this place up. It seems like you want it to be disgusting down here.”

Then she’d gone on a big rant about how the fourth phase of the Marble Cinematic Universe really just wasn’t living up to the standards set by the previous two dozen films. Because if there was one thing she knew Vai hated, it was opinions about superhero movies.

She wasn’t really sure what her goal was, other than to perhaps get them to do something about the state of the sewer system. Seriously, how hard would it be to get drain contractors to take a day off from their regular task of being a normal drain repair around Melbourne and get them into the sewers?

Maphira supposed that Vai having a migraine could help her escape somehow, given she was in charge of this whole operation. Maybe it would give her the perfect chance to escape when she decided to pull the pin. But she had to hold out as long as she could. The chance to get information was too valuable to pass up.

Making sure her radio earpiece was still on her, Maphira headed up the stairs to whatever fate awaited her with this mysterious Project Bender.

They came up into what Maphira immediately recognised as an auto shop. She supposed that shouldn’t have surprised her, given this was the Conclave of Mechanists she was dealing with.

So, this is where it’s all going to go down, huh? Let’s see what you’ve got, Vai.
